“É uma iniciativa pioneira. Não há nenhuma outra ferramenta desse tipo desenvolvida pela sociedade civil, com este grau de detalhe, para estimar as emissões de gases de efeito estufa”, conta Tasso Azevedo, coordenador de desenvolvimento do SEEG e consultor do Blog do Clima, do Planeta Sustentável.
Desenvolvida entre julho e novembro de 2013, a ferramenta apresenta, ano a ano, as estimativas de emissões brasileiras de forma consistente e ível. “No Brasil, já existem dados oficiais a respeito do assunto, mas demoram tanto para ser publicados que se tornam defasados. Em julho desse ano, por exemplo, o governo apresentou as estimativas referentes às emissões até 2010. Nesse ritmo, fica difícil desenvolverpolíticas públicas eficazes, que reajam ao problema a tempo”, explica Carlos Rittl, secretário-executivo do Observatório do Clima.
Além de dados atualizados, o SEEG pretende produzir informação ível a todos os públicos. Na plataforma online do sistema, os internautas podem ar, de forma simples, todo o conteúdo produzido pela equipe do SEEG. Eles ainda têm a oportunidade de fazer os recortes que quiserem. “Por exemplo, é possível enxergar, dentro das emissões provenientes das atividades agropecuárias, qual a contribuição do gado de leite para qualquer período entre 1990 e 2012. O internauta pode escolher a área que quer pesquisar e em que intervalo de tempo”, afirma Tasso Azevedo.
A expectativa é de que o SEEG leve conhecimento técnico aos diferentes grupos da sociedade civil, incentivando-os a contribuir para a criação de políticas que visem aredução das emissões brasileiras e a inserção do tema mudanças climáticas naspolíticas de desenvolvimento do país. “Hoje, no Brasil, não vemos nenhuma decisão política vinculada à economia de baixo carbono, porque as mudanças climáticas ainda não são vistas como desafio estratégico para o nosso desenvolvimento. Isso precisa mudar”, diz Carlos Rittl, que completa: “Espero que os dados do SEEG gerem análises ricas para promover essa mudança no Brasil”.
Durante o evento de lançamento do SEEG, que acontece o dia todo, ainda será apresentado o documento Estimativa de Emissões de Gases de Efeito Estufa do Brasil 2012, que reúne dados a respeito da liberação de poluentes no país entre 1990 e 2012. Confira os principais resultados desse relatório.
