#ImagemDoDia Impacto das queimadas nas cidades amazônicas 492x1

As queimadas descontroladas na Amazônia são conhecidas por devastarem as florestas e a biodiversidade, e suas plumas de fumaça podem gerar impactos muito além da área de ocorrência direta dos incêndios florestais.
Manaus, cidade do Amazonas mais populosa da Amazônia, tem sido tomada por uma fumaça densa, causando desde transtornos no trânsito local até problemas graves de saúde, em especial em crianças, que são mais suscetíveis a doenças respiratórias. Segundo a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS), em seu último relatório, a poluição do ar mata mais de 600 mil crianças todos os anos no mundo.
O que chama atenção é que a origem da pluma de fumaça são queimadas realizadas em outros municípios amazônicos a quilômetros de distância de Manaus. Dados de focos de calor do Inpe revelam que somente no mês de outubro de 2018 foram registrados 1.703 focos de calor no estado do Amazonas e 10 mil em toda a Amazônia.
Situação semelhante é observada em outras cidades da Amazônia como Rio Branco e Porto Velho. Porém, as plumas que cobrem essas cidades se originam não somente em queimadas praticadas em outros municípios, mas muitas vezes em outros estados e até países vizinhos, como a Bolívia.
