#ImagemDoDia Intensificação da exploração ilegal de madeira ameaça Terra Indígena Alto Rio Guamá 2e3y58

Há anos a Terra Indígena (TI) Alto Rio Guamá, no Pará, vem sofrendo com a exploração dos seus recursos florestais, que representa uma ameaça crescente não somente ao ecossistema local, mas também ao povo Tembé, que tira de lá parte do seu sustento. Nos últimos dois anos, porém, a situação se agravou significativamente.
Uma análise com imagens de satélite de 1997 a 2018 realizada pelo Imazon constatou um total de 178,2 km2 de florestas exploradas na TI, dos quais quase metade (85 km²) aconteceu somente nos últimos dois anos (2017/2018). O Imazon monitora a exploração madeireira nos estados do Pará e Mato Grosso desde 2008 usando o Sistema de Monitoramento da Exploração de Madeira (Simex). A intensificação da exploração instalou um clima tenso na TI entre indígenas e madeireiros, que resultou em várias operações dos órgãos competentes visando evitar possíveis conflitos. Para garantir a soberania da tribo Tembé sobre a TI Alto Rio Guamá, é necessário aumentar a presença do Estado na área protegida intensificando a fiscalização, reprimindo a retirada de madeira, responsabilizando efetivamente os infratores e melhorando e aumentando o uso dos sistemas de monitoramento da exploração ilegal de madeira disponíveis.
