Fonseca, A., Justino, M., Souza Jr., C. & Veríssimo, A. 2015. Deforestation report for the Brazilian Amazon (Juely 2015) SAD (p. 10). Belém: Imazon.
In July 2015, SAD detected 542 square kilometers of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon with a cloud cover of 13% of the territory. That represented a 53% increase in relation to July 2014 when deforestation totaled 355 square kilometers and cloud cover was at 10%.
The deforestation accumulated during the period of August 2014 to July 2015, corresponding to the twelve months of the calendar for measuring deforestation, reached 3,322 square kilometers. There was a 63% increase in deforestation in relation to the previous period (August 2013 to July 2014) when it reached 2,044 square kilometers.
In July 2015, the largest share (27%) of deforestation occurred in Amazonas, followed by Rondônia (22%), Mato Grosso (17%), Pará (17%), Acre (10%) and Roraima (7%).
Degraded forests totaled 240 square kilometers in July 2015. In relation to July 2014, when forest degradation totaled 97 square kilometers, there was a 147% increase. The great majority (85%) occurred in Mato Grosso, followed by Pará (9%), Roraima (4%), Amazonas (1%) and Rondônia (1%).
Accumulated forest degradation for the period of August 2014 to July 2015 totaled 2,186 square kilometers. In relation to the previous period (August 2013 to July 2014), when forest degradation totaled 711 square kilometers, there was a 207% increase. .
