Amazônia perdeu área de 150 parques do Ibirapuera em agosto, diz ONG 5g3r63
Levantamento do Imazon afirma que 240 km² de floresta foram derrubados.Pará foi estado que mais desmatou, seguido de Rondônia e Mato Grosso.
A Amazônia perdeu em agosto 240 km² de cobertura vegetal, de acordo com levantamento divulgado nesta quinta-feira (22) pela organização ambiental Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon), que faz um monitoramento paralelo ao do governo federal.
É como se a floresta perdesse em um mês uma área do tamanho de 150 parques do Ibirapuera, localizado na cidade de São Paulo. O número 15% superior ao mesmo período do ano ado, segundo o Sistema de Alerta de Desmatamento (SAD), que analisa o desmatamento através de imagens de satélite.
No mês ado, em julho, o Imazon havia detectado redução de 40% no desmatamento, o que segundo os pesquisadores seria resultado das ações de fiscalização contra crimes ambientais na região da Amazônia Legal.
Operações realizadas pelo Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais (Ibama) em diversos estados fecharam serrarias ilegais e localizaram focos de degradação a pedido do Ministério do Meio Ambiente. Até o fim de setembro, o Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais deve divulgar dados sobre o desmatamento, utilizados pelo governo federal como oficiais.

O levantamento aponta o estado do Pará como o maior desmatador do mês, com 119 km² de vegetação derrubada. Rondônia vem na segunda posição, com 49 km² de desmatamento, seguido do Mato Grosso, com 35 km².
Entre as cidades que mais desmataram, Porto Velho, capital de Rondônia, encabeça a lista com 30 km². Segundo a pesquisadora do Imazon, Sanae Hayashi, as obras das hidrelétricas de Jirau e Santo Antônio, na região do Rio Madeira, podem ter impulsionado a devastação de áreas de floresta na região.
As cidades paraenses de São Félix do Xingu e Altamira derrubaram juntas 34,3 km² de floresta. Em Altamira, a área de vegetação tem sido suprimida devido à construção da usina hidrelétrica de Belo Monte, no Rio Xingu.
De acordo com a companhia responsável pelo empreendimento, as obras poderão suprimir até 175 km² de florestas da Amazônia, uma área maior que a cidade de Natal, capital do Rio Grande do Norte, que tem 167 km² de acordo com o Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE).
