Comunidade solta mais de 3 mil quelônios na Área de Proteção Ambiental Jará, em Juruti 2z6r2c
Comunidade Laguinho realiza soltura há 9 anos na área.
A comunidade Laguinho, situada na Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA) Jará, em Juruti, no oeste do Pará, realizou no último domingo (10) a soltura de mais de 3 mil filhotes de quelônios nas águas que circundam o rio Amazonas. A iniciativa é da própria comunidade, feita de forma voluntária, e da Prefeitura Municipal e com apoio do Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon) e da Fundação Alcoa. A soltura ocorre desde 2013 e este ano chegou ao maior número de filhotes devolvidos à natureza.
De acordo com Jorge Guimarães, morador e conselheiro da APA, responsável pelo manejo da espécie, o processo inicia em setembro, quando os bichos colocam os ovos na areia. Ele e mais cinco moradores recolhem os ovos das praias e colocam em uma chocadeira artificial construída pela comunidade. “Logo após, anotamos o dia que foi coletado e observamos a incubação e a eclosão. São 60 dias até eles nascerem. E aí levamos para o reservatório, onde eles crescem antes de serem soltos”, explica Jorge.
“O que mais me emociona é quando eclode. A gente volta lá e vê, eles estão saindo. Temos uma planilha que anotamos quantos nascem, quantos morrem e a quantidade no tanque também”, comenta Jorge.
A ação é monitorada e incentivada pelo Programa Manejo de Quelônios de Juruti, instituído por lei municipal em 2013, e realizado pela Secretaria Municipal de Meio Ambiente.
A titular da secretaria, Nayme Lopes, destaca que as atividades durante todas as etapas do manejo são coordenadas pela prefeitura e que o protagonismo da comunidade é fundamental para o sucesso da soltura dos quelônios. “Os moradores realizam essa atividade e nós formalizamos para acompanhar. Fazemos o levantamento de todos os materiais que as comunidades vão precisar e damos apoio logístico e de infraestrutura, como por exemplo, a instalação da bomba para puxar água do rio para lavar o reservatório. Fazemos ainda visitas de campo, treinamentos com explicação de todos os conceitos do programa e de técnicas de manejo e acompanhamos até a soltura”, comenta Nayme Lopes.
O número de comunidades envolvidas no programa, desde a sua criação, aumentou de 16 para 35, fazendo com que o total de filhotes de quelônios soltos em Juruti asse, por exemplo, de 8 mil em 2020 para mais de 45 mil em 2022. O animal, popularmente conhecido como tracajá, é uma espécie que ocorre no bioma Amazônia do Brasil, Venezuela, Colômbia, Equador, Peru, Bolívia, Guiana, Guiana sa e Suriname. Ela é uma espécie vulnerável e quase ameaçada de extinção devido à forte pressão de caça.
Sobre a Área de Proteção Ambiental Jará
A Área de Proteção Ambiental Jará é uma Unidade de Conservação de uso sustentável localizada próxima a zona urbana de Juruti, Estado do Pará, criada pelo Decreto Municipal n.o 4.174, em 3 de dezembro de 2019. Seu objetivo é proteger a biodiversidade, organizar o processo de ocupação do território e promover a sustentabilidade no uso dos recursos naturais (água, peixes, bacaba, etc.) para melhorar a qualidade de vida da população local. A APA Jará possui quase 5 mil hectares, incluindo os lagos Jará, Tucunaré, Laguinho e margem esquerda do Curumucuri, onde residem cerca de 120 famílias.
