Desmatamento na Amazônia aumenta 23% em novembro e bate recorde mensal dos últimos dez anos 6fi3x
Novembro marcou mais um mês de aumento na destruição da Floresta Amazônia. De acordo com dados do Sistema de Alerta de Desmatamento (SAD) do Imazon, em apenas um mês, foram derrubados 484 km² de área verde. O número é 23% maior se comparado ao mesmo período do ano ado, quando foram desmatados 393 km². O total desmatado em novembro de 2020 é o maior da série histórica dos últimos dez anos. Vale ressaltar que, há alguns meses, o desmatamento vem batendo recordes, o que preocupa especialistas.
No ranking dos estados que mais desmataram a Amazônia, o Pará aparece novamente em primeiro lugar, com quase a metade (48%) de todo o desmatamento na Amazônia Legal. Em seguida vem Mato Grosso (19%), Rondônia (10%), Maranhão (9%), Amazonas (8%), Acre (3%), Roraima (2%) e, por último, Amapá (1%). São Félix do Xingu, Pacajá e Altamira, todos no Pará, ocupam o topo do ranking dos municípios que mais registraram desmatamento em seus territórios.
Degradação – Em novembro, a degradação cresceu 144% na Amazônia, segundo o sistema de monitoramento do Imazon. As florestas degradadas totalizaram 1.206 km². Os incêndios florestais são alguns dos exemplos de degradação. Esses incêndios podem ser causados por queimadas controladas em áreas privadas para limpeza de pasto, por exemplo, mas que acabam atingindo a floresta e se alastrando. A extração seletiva de madeira para fins comerciais é outro exemplo de degradação.
Monitoramento da Amazônia – O Sistema de Alerta de Desmatamento, desenvolvido pelo Imazon, é uma ferramenta que utiliza imagens de satélite para monitorar a floresta. Além do SAD, existem outras plataformas que vigiam a Amazônia: Deter, do Inpe, e o GLAD, da Universidade de Maryland. Todas essas plataformas são importantes para a proteção do nosso patrimônio ambiental, pois garantem a vigilância da floresta e a emissão de alertas dos locais onde há registro de desmatamento. Os dados fornecidos ajudam a subsidiar os órgãos de controle ambiental a planejar operações de fiscalização e identificar desmatadores ilegais.
