Desmatamento na Amazônia tem queda de 42% em junho, diz Imazon 43gh
Ações do governo podem ter causado redução no mês, aponta ONG. Acumulado no ano, no entanto, indica tendência de aumento de derrubadas.
O ritmo de desmatamento na Amazônia Legal diminuiu no mês de junho, segundo levantamento feito pela organização ambiental brasileira Imazon (Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia), divulgado nesta sexta-feira (22).
O relatório elaborado pela ONG, a partir de imagens de satélite, apontou desmatamento de 99 km² no bioma no mês ado, uma redução de 42% no comparativo com junho de 2010.
De acordo com Sanae Hayashi, pesquisadora do Imazon, a queda surpreendeu porque o mês é o primeiro do período considerado crítico para o desmatamento, devido ao início da seca na Amazônia, que facilitaria as queimadas e, consequentemente, a devastação da floresta.
“Acreditamos que a queda pode já ser resultado das operações de fiscalização implementadas pelo Ministério do Meio Ambiente e outros órgãos”, afirma Sanae.
No acumulado entre agosto de 2010 e junho de 2011, o desmatamento foi de 1.534 km², aumento de 15% em relação a agosto de 2009 e junho de 2010. O estado de Mato Grosso foi responsável por derrubar 38% deste total e é líder no ranking do desmatamento, seguido do Pará (25%) e de Rondônia (21%).
A cobertura de nuvens em junho impediu que 35% da Amazônia Legal fosse monitorada por satélites, de acordo com o Sistema de Alerta de Desmatamento (SAD).
Assentamentos
Sanae informa ainda que 22 km² de floresta foram derrubados em assentamentos de reforma agrária, principalmente no Amazonas e no Pará. No ranking divulgado pelo Imazon, o assentamento Rio Juma, em Apuí (AM) foi o que mais derrubou árvores no mês ado (7,1 km²).
“Os índices são altos para essas áreas, que tinham que registrar zero desmatamento. Para evitar isso, esses projetos deveriam ter mais apoio do governo e também maior fiscalização e infraestrutura, para evitar o crime ambiental”, diz a pesquisadora.
Aumento
O decréscimo no desmatamento registrado pelo Imazon não é considerado pelo governo federal. A expectativa do Ministério do Meio Ambiente para junho é de alta na devastação da floresta. A ministra do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira, declarou nesta semana que o índice de desmatamento em junho será superior ao mesmo mês do ano ado.
Sem precisar os números, a ministra informou também que, no acumulado do ano, a devastação do bioma medida pelo sistema de Detecção de Desmatamento em Tempo Real (Deter), do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (Inpe) também foi maior. As informações devem ser divulgadas na próxima semana pelo governo.
