O desmatamento em Mato Grosso atingiu uma área de 243 quilômetros quadrados no mês de abril, o que representa um aumento de 537% em relação ao mesmo mês de 2010, quando a área afetada somou 38 km². O alerta é do Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon), com base nos dados do boletim mais recente do Sistema de Alerta de Desmatamento (SAD), que faz um monitoramento do desmate paralelo ao do governo federal.
O acumulado do período – agosto de 2010 a abril de 2011 – representa um aumento de 96%, se comparado ao período de agosto de 2009 a abril de 2010. Com relação à degradação, dados do SAD registram um crescimento alarmante: 1.755 km² em abril.
Os dados confirmam a tendência prevista pelo Instituto Centro de Vida (ICV) de Mato Grosso, que recentemente realizou um mapeamento do desmatamento em três municípios do centro-norte do Estado. Segundo o ICV, de agosto de 2010 a abril de 2011 foram identificados 66 novos focos de desmatamentos apenas no município de Nova Ubiratan, totalizando 37 mil hectares.
No mesmo período, em Santa Carmem, foram 24 novos focos de desmatamento, com a destruição de 9 mil hectares. E em Claudia foram encontrados 22 novos focos, também afetando 9 mil hectares.
De agosto de 2009 a julho de 2010, o desmatamento nesses municípios havia sido de 2,3 mil, 1,2 mil e e 700 hectares, respectivamente. Segundo a assessoria do ICV, até abril a o aumento da destruição nesses três municípios foi de 1.200%.
O Estado está em alerta. Luciano Guerra Cotta, chefe da Divisão de Fiscalização de Controle e Fiscalização do Ibama/MT, Mato Grosso tem cerca de 120 dos 520 fiscais na região Amazônica. No Estado, eles atuam em oito frentes. “Devem chegar mais nos próximos dias”, afirmou.
