Imazon: Foram desmatados 155 km2 na Amazônia Legal em julho de 2010 3u3t1u
Em julho de 2010 foram desmatados 155 quilômetros quadrados na Amazônia Legal, conforme dados do Instituto do Homem e do Meio Ambiente (Imazon), que realiza o monitoramento das áreas desmatadas e de degradação florestal por meio do satélite SAD. O desmatamento total representou uma redução de 71% em relação a julho de 2009, quando o desmatamento somou 532 quilômetros quadrados.
A maioria (51%) do desmatamento ocorreu no Pará, seguido por Mato Grosso (23%), Rondônia (9%),Amazonas (8%), Acre (8%), e Tocantins (1%). Em julho de 2010, foi possível monitorar 79% da área com cobertura florestal na Amazônia Legal.
Em relação à degradação florestal, ou seja, florestas que sofreram intensa exploração madeireira e/ou que sofreram fogo florestal, o SAD registrou 159 quilômetros quadrados em julho de 2010. Desse total, 57% ocorreu no Pará, 32% no Mato Grosso, 5% em Rondônia, 3% no Acre, e 3% no Amazonas.
No mês de julho de 2010, a maioria (67%) do desmatamento ocorreu em áreas privadas ou sob diversos estágios de posse. O restante do desmatamento foi registrado em Assentamentos de Reforma Agrária (20%), seguido de Unidades de Conservação (9%) e Terras Indígenas (4%). Os Assentamentos mais afetados pelo desmatamento foram Jacaré-Açú (Novo Repartimento; Pará), Rio Juma (Apuí; Amazonas), e Campos de Pilar (Aveiro; Pará).
Desmatamento Acumulado:
O mês de julho encerra o calendário do desmatamento da Amazônia, que tem inicio em agosto. No acumulado do ano (de agosto de 2009 a julho de 2010), o desmatamento atingiu 1.188 quilômetros quadrados. Em comparação com o período anterior (agosto 2008 a julho 2009) quando o desmatamento somou 1.766 quilômetros quadrados, houve redução de 16%.
A queda do desmatamento do Tocantins foi a mais significativa, com -91%, seguido por Roraima (-36%), Pará (- 27%), e Mato Grosso (-21%). Por outro lado, houve aumento no Acre (+93%), Rondônia (+36%) e no Amazonas (+23).
O Estado do Pará continua na liderança do ranking com 51% do total desmatado registrado no período. Em seguida aparece Mato Grosso com 23% e Rondônia com 9%. O documento destaca o aumento dos índices no Amazonas e no Acre, que na composição total do desmatamento da Amazônia legal tiveram 8% cada. Tocantins participa com 1%.
O desmatamento acumulado no período de agosto de 2009 a julho de 2010 resultou no comprometimento de 95,6 milhões de toneladas de C02 equivalentes, as quais estão sujeitas a emissões diretas e futuras por eventos de queimadas e decomposição. Isso representa uma redução de 20% em relação ao período anterior (agosto de 2008 a julho de 2009) quando o carbono florestal afetado pelo desmatamento foi cerca de 121 milhões de toneladas de C02 equivalente.
