O programa federal Mais Ambiente, que suspende por três anos a punição aos que desmatam ilegalmente, continua recebendo críticas severas de diversas organizações não-governamentais.
Nota de 20 delas diz: “A suspensão só seria issível se viesse acompanhada de medidas concretas de implementação do Código Florestal Brasileiro, ou seja, se fosse compreendido como um período de transição para que os produtores rurais se adequassem a uma realidade onde o descumprimento da lei não é mais tolerado”.
Para as ONGs, apesar de o decreto afirmar que apoiará a regularização ambiental das propriedades rurais, não traz nenhuma “medida concreta, recursos ou estrutura istrativa para tirar do papel este Programa ironicamente chamado de “Mais Ambiente””.
