Promovendo e implementando a Regeneração Natural Assistida em larga escala na Amazônia brasileira 24z4u
A natureza tem um grande poder de se regenerar. Mesmo áreas que sofreram profundas alterações ou severa degradação podem, dependendo do seu grau de resiliência, recuperar sua paisagem florestal novamente. Porém, nessas áreas, o processo de regeneração natural pode ser longo e algum nível de assistência humana pode fazer toda a diferença.
Uma intervenção humana certeira e bem planejada pode ser a solução. Por meio da Regeneração Natural Assistida, podemos acelerar o crescimento da floresta em áreas abandonadas ou de baixa aptidão agrícola com menor custo e em menos tempo. Intervenções como o isolamento ou cercamento de uma área próxima a fragmentos florestais, manejo adequado de espécies invasoras e plantio para o enriquecimento da diversidade de espécies de uma área em regeneração podem ser a alavanca que falta para o Brasil recuperar milhões de hectares.
Para incentivar o uso de técnicas de regeneração natural assistida por parte de produtores rurais e comunidades na Amazônia, o WRI Brasil, em parceira com o Instituto Centro de Vida (ICV), o Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon), a Suzano e o programa Global do World Resources Institute iniciou a implementação do projeto Catalyzing and Implementing Asissted Natural Regeneration in Mato Grosso and Para.
O projeto tem como objetivo incentivar a restauração de aproximadamente 300 mil hectares por meio da regeneração natural assistidaem 8 municípios (três no Pará e cinco no Mato Grosso) e em três linhas de ação:
Identificar e mapear fatores de sucesso e áreas prioritárias para a regeneração natural assistida;
Desenhar e testar pacotes e soluções de implementação de regeneração natural assistida em paisagens prioritárias;
Aumentar a escala das iniciativas bem-sucedidas nos municípios, estados e bioma.
O projeto busca restaurar áreas degradadas na Amazônia brasileira, o que permitirá o sequestro de milhões de toneladas de carbono da atmosfera, contribuirá para a adequação ambiental e produtiva do imóvel rural, com cumprimento do Código Florestal por parte dos produtores rurais e trará outros inúmeros benefícios sociais, econômicos e ambientais para a região. Além disso, o trabalho busca criar e consolidar mecanismos financeiros de incentivo à restauração florestal, gerar renda, emprego e melhoria de vida para as populações da Amazônia e replicar as experiências de sucesso em outros biomas e países.
A regeneração natural assistida é uma das diversas técnicas que temos à disposição para restaurar florestas e melhorar nosso meio ambiente, mitigar os efeitos das mudanças climáticas, e promover o desenvolvimento sustentável. Ela pode ser crucial para que o país atinja sua meta de restaurar 12 milhões de hectares de áreas e florestas degradadas até 2030.
