Este relatório sintetiza os resultados do detalhamento do ZEE nas áreas potenciais para produção florestal manejada. O estudo, uma iniciativa da Seprod, foi executado pelo Imazon no período de novembro de 2005 a fevereiro de 2006. Os objetivos gerais do estudo foram avaliar a demanda por áreas florestais para produção florestal manejada no Estado; avaliar o potencial de oferta de áreas florestais para produção florestal manejada no Estado; e identificar e avaliar novas áreas com potencial para produção florestal manejada no Estado. A indústria madeireira do Pará necessita de aproximadamente 167 mil Km2 de área florestal líquida para manter o consumo de matéria-prima com base na produção de 2004 – aproximadamente 11,2 milhões de metros cúbicos de madeira em tora. Por sua vez, as áreas potenciais para uso florestal no Pará somam aproximadamente 250 mil Km2. Desse total, 120 mil km2 são novas áreas identificadas por esse estudo. Sugerimos que essa novas áreas sejam transformadas nas seguintes categorias: (i) Florestas Estaduais /Nacionais (47%); APAs Florestais (20%); Concessão florestal (fora de Unidade de Conservação) e ou assentamento florestal (23%) e (iv) Outras Unidades de Conservação de uso sustentável (10%).
