Em março de 2012, o Sistema de Alerta de Desmatamento (SAD) detectou 53 quilômetros quadrados de desmatamento na Amazônia Legal. Isso representou um aumento de 15% em relação a março de 2011 quando o desmatamento somou 46 quilômetros quadrados. Foi possível monitorar apenas 26% da área florestal na Amazônia Legal em março de 2012.
O desmatamento acumulado no período de agosto de 2011 a março de 2012 totalizou 760 quilômetros quadrados. Houve redução de 22% em relação ao período anterior (agosto de 2010 a março de 2011) quando o desmatamento somou 969 quilômetros quadrados.
Em março de 2012, a maioria (60%) do desmatamento ocorreu em Mato Grosso. Em seguida aparece o Pará com 25% e Rondônia com 9%. O restante (6%) ocorreu no Amazonas, Roraima e Acre. Porém, foi possível monitorar apenas 26% da área florestal da Amazônia e, portanto, os dados de desmatamento nesse mês podem estar subestimados.
As florestas degradadas na Amazônia Legal somaram 40 quilômetros quadrados em março de 2012. Em relação a março de 2011, quando a degradação florestal somou 298 quilômetros quadrados, houve redução de 87%. A maioria (67%) ocorreu em Mato Grosso seguido pelo Amazonas (15%), Rondônia (10%) e Pará (7%).
A degradação florestal acumulada no período (agosto 2011 a março 20120) atingiu 1.568 quilômetros quadrados. Em relação ao período anterior (agosto de 2010 a março de 2011), quando a degradação somou 4.111 quilômetros quadrados, houve redução de 62% . Baixe aqui o arquivo
