A Área de Proteção Ambiental Jará, em Juruti, no oeste do Pará, tem 4.850 hectares e está situada entre a sede municipal e o lago Curumucuri (limites oeste e leste) e entre as vias de o que ligam a cidade às comunidades Jangada e Santa Maria do Curumucuri (limites norte e sul). Esse território engloba os lagos Jará, Tucunaré, Laguinho e parte do Curumucuri.
Ao longo de 2019 realizamos, com uma equipe multidisciplinar, um amplo levantamento de informações técnicas na região, além de reuniões para subsidiar a criação da APA, com apoio financeiro da Alcoa Foundation. Logo após, publicamos o Relatório de viabilidade técnica para a criação de Unidade de Conservação no município de Juruti (PA) e realizamos uma consulta pública no município. Então, foi determinada a criação da APA por meio do decreto municipal nº 4.174, de 03 de dezembro de 2019.
Em 2020, fizemos os protocolos preconizados no Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação (SNUC), com a criação do Conselho Gestor da APA e oficinas para a elaboração do Plano de Manejo (PM), documento que orienta a gestão da Unidade de Conservação pelos próximos 5 anos. Nesta cartilha, apresentamos um resumo do PM onde estão descritas as regras que dispõem sobre o uso dos recursos naturais e as ações a serem realizadas entre os anos de 2022 a 2026.
