Grande é a importância do planejamento na exploração de impacto reduzido. O objetivo deste trabalho é de determinar a localização ótima da infra-estrutura (estradas, pátios e ramais de arraste) em um talhão de floresta amazônica a ser explorado no Acre através de modelagem matemática. Foi observado que a otimização resulta em, por exemplo, um decréscimo médio de 143-251 km da distância de arraste e 28-44 horas do tempo total gasto com o arraste, dependendo do critério utilizado, extrapolado para uma área de 5.000 ha, o que gera um menor dano à floresta e maior viabilidade econômica da exploração de impacto reduzido. Ainda são necessárias melhorias dessa modelagem porém, de antemão, já é possivel se detectar o grande potencial dessa ferramenta para o planejamento da infra-estrutura de exploração florestal na Amazônia.
