No manejo de florestas naturais, os cipós são um importante elemento, pois com suas interligações na copa das árvores, quando estas são derrubadas, aumentam consideralvelmente os danos. Para avaliar a resistência dos cipós em áreas que sofreram extração seletiva de madeira e fogo, avaliamos duas famílias de cipós com diferenças relevantes na anatomia. Bignoniaceae com caule composto por anéis de xilema e floema e Sapindaceae formando como se fossem feixes de caule, testamos a resistência em 3 pontos (n=15 por familia). As amostras de 1-2 cm de diâmetro demonstraram que o caule da Bignoniaceae foi mais resistente do que os de Sapindeaceae.
